Chris Brown and Justin Bieber took their mothers as their dates to the 2012 American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov.18, but Brown could not get away from his ex-girlfriend that night.

Selena Gomez, Bieber's on-and-off girlfriend, met Bieber after the ceremony at an afterparty, but Brown's ex-girlfriend, Karreuche Tran, made her way into the event held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

"Quiet as it's kept, Karrueche was there," an eyewitness told Hollywood Life. "She kept a low profile and was backstage not trying to be all in front of the cameras or with Chris...It wasn't about them being together or anything like that, it was just a night to have fun."

To the surprise of the onlooker, Tran and Brown didn't spend any time together during the awards show, she kept her distance to be respectful of the "Fortune" singer's time spent with his mom.

"No, she didn't even see him. Crazy, I know, but they texted a little and that was it. She was just glad she got to watch him perform and support," the source added. "I'm telling you though, it wasn't...about them being together or anything. Chris was with his mom and [Karrueche] respects that and gave them their space. Thats it and that's all."

Brown announced his split from Tran on Oct. 4, but the aspiring model has been spotted with Brown several times afterwards despite his reconciliation with Rihanna.

Tran was seen with Brown in California on Oct.14. A fan tweeted the spotting: "Don't Believe The Media @chrisbrown and @karrueche are Still Together Don't Believe That B.S They Say." It was one of several reports of the pair together when Brown wasn't with Rihanna.

The Bajan beauty must have been fed up with Brown's antics- on Nov. 7 she announced that she and Brown were no longer together.

Bravo's Andy Cohen asked the "Diamonds" singer in a Facebook Live interview if she was dating Brown. She answered, "No. Not together."

The "S&M" singer said the pair are still friends and she even gave him a compliment.

"He's dope," she told Cohen. "He's kinda alright."

The former couple recently collaborated on "Nobody's Business" for "Unapologetic," Rihanna's recently released album.

Lack of boyfriend aside, Rihanna has been busy with recent performances at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, "Saturday Night Live," and is busy traveling for her seven-stop promotional tour, "777." She headlines seven concerts in seven countries in seven days, and travels to each location on a Boeing 777.
