NCIS: Los Angeles will kick off production for season 7 before the dog days of August roll around.

The CBS drama is currently on hiatus, but the series' writers are hard at work penning new adventures for Callen (Chris O'Donnell), Sam (LL Cool J), Kensi (Daniela Ruah), and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen). The first of these stories will come to fruition as July ends.

"Happy Independence Day to all of our #ncisla fans," executive producer John Peter Kousakis teased on Friday. "Production begins on #ncislaS7 in three weeks. #staytuned 4 action, drama and laughs!"

Breaking tradition, the series' closed out season 6 without a life or death cliffhanger. However, that doesn't mean NCIS: LA doesn't still have several questions to answer, particularly regarding Callen's father.

"This is the first time, at the end of season 6, that we didn't have a 'To Be Continued' situation, but they sort of opened so many doors of things that need to be answered for the next season that it's going to be really exciting," Ruah told Extra TV.
