A slew of unpopular storylines appear to be putting General Hospital in extreme danger of cancellation as the ratings continue to slide.

According to Daytime Confidential, the show has netted alarmingly low numbers the past few months, hitting an all-time low in women 18-49, a key demographic, for 10 straight weeks--a dangerous slide for ABC's sole remaining soap opera. Overall, the show only saw 2.7 million viewers the week of June 22-26, down 68,000 for the week overall and down 256,000 from the same time last year.

According to the website, the show's slide has likely been in part to some lackluster and dragged out storylines which ans have been less than enthused about. The biggest storyline in question that has allegedly made fans genuinely angry enough not to tune in has involved the changing of Maura West's character Ava Jerome--who is faking being her own twin sister so she can stay close to her daughters. Ava is believed to be dead, and if she is proven to not only be alive, but back in Port Charles, she will be sent to prison for murder.

Another storyline that had been keeping fans away from the soap has been the dragged out reveal that Jake Doe (Billy Miller) is actually Jason Morgan resurrected from the dead. The only people on the show who know the truth about his identity are Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst)--who are keeping the truth to themselves for their own personal gains.

Overall, it is unclear if the decline is going to send warning bells to ABC and force them to reconsider keeping the soap in rotation. The network famously canceled their two other soap operas, All My Children and One Life To Live , which aired their final episodes in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
