The new promo photo of Once Upon a Time's Emma (Jennifer Morrison) as "the Dark Swan" is very wicked.

Emma's Darkness Manifests Differently Than Rumple's on 'Once Upon a Time'?

Emma has transformed into the Dark Swan in a new promo poster for Once Upon a Time season 5. The poster is very reminiscent of the one for the 2010 film Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman. It is also in keeping with the OUAT poster trend of a close-up female face.

'Once Upon a Time' Season 5 Premiere Title Addresses Emma's Darkness

 

Once Upon a Time co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke with TV Insider about Emma in season 5 and how she dangerous she will be.

"As formidable as Emma was as a hero, she's going to be exponentially more dangerous as a villain," Horowitz teased. Kitsis quipped, "I hope our fanbase reacts well-it seems like a large segment is very worried!"

Kitsis added, "The first thing Emma wants to do is get the darkness out. But will she be able to resist taking a bite of the forbidden apple?"

It's looking like the answer is "no" considering Henry (Jared Gilmore), Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) have to go out in search of Merlin, who is the only person with the ability to rid Emma of the darkness.

The new season will feature the introduction of Merlin in addition to other Camelot natives like King Arthur and Guinevere.

"We're excited to put our twist on these classic characters," Kitsis said. "We love the origin stories!"

Once Upon a Time season 5 premieres on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
