Their previous friendship and alliance was strong despite the dire circumstances surrounding them, but early key art which seems to show Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan (Lennie James) at odds on season 6 of The Walking Dead may only be the beginning of an impending feud.

Glenn, Maggie & Daryl Fight For Their Lives In Season 6

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Scott Gimple talked about season 6 and what fans could potentially see when things picked up in Alexandria once again, following Morgan's arrival and Rick's murdering Pete by shooting him at point blank range. During the interview he confirmed that there would at least be some initial conflict for the two characters.

"...And more importantly, right after he pulled the trigger, Morgan was there and they're face-to-face. What have we heard from Morgan What have we seen from him?" Gimple said. "He said, 'All life is precious,' and the first thing he sees Rick do is shoot a man in the face. So right there, the facts point towards a bit of conflict there, a bit of an issue. And will the Alexandrians after that gunshot be completely down with what Rick was saying just a few moments before? Bif of a question mark there."

The Season 6 Premiere Will 'Blow Fans' Minds'

However, the conflict won't be the only interesting element and addition to the story in the upcoming season, as more backstory from the comics will make its way onto the show.

"I think there's a really cool aspect to the first half of the season that serves almost as a prequel to some direct comic stuff in the second half of the season," Gimple said. "I think there's a way that Robert did some of the story that we're reaching that had a real past to it, where people are referring to some things in the past in the comic. And we're able to portray some of that backstory in some ways that you didn't get to see in the comic."

The Walking Dead returns in October.
