While Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) dark storyline will take over ABC's Once Upon a Time over the first few episodes of season 5, Lily's (Agnes Bruckner) storyline will also be addressed eventually.

Emma's Darkness Manifests Differently Than Rumple's on 'Once Upon a Time'?

Lily's relationship with her mother Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) will be tackled more in season 5, though not immediately, according to a new Entertainment Weekly report. A fan submitted a question about how much fans will get to see Lily and Maleficent in season 5, and according to the report, their storyline will be on the back-burner for the first five episodes at least.

However, Once Upon a Time co-creator Edward Kitsis promises that they will get to the Lily-Maleficent story eventually.

'Once Upon a Time's Emma Is 'Exponentially More Dangerous' As The Dark Swan

"We intend to tell that story at some point this season," Kitsis told the publication. "We set it up for a reason. That is one we are definitely intending to do."

In the mean time, Emma succumbing to darkness and becoming "the Dark Swan" will likely overshadow much of the other storylines. Emma sacrificed herself in the season 4 finale by letting the darkness consume rather than allowing it to spread. Fans last saw the Dark One's dagger with the name "Emma Swan" written directly on it.

It remains to be seen how long this "Dark Swan" storyline will last, though it should make for some compelling drama in the first few episodes.

Once Upon a Time season 5 is set to premiere Sunday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
