Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon credits the Church of Scientology for keeping her so grounded.

Prepon, who plays Alex Vause on Orange Is the New Black, spoke with Celebrity Magazine (which is the go-to Scientology magazine) where she revealed how the controversial religion has helped her over the years.

The actress spoke of being a "thetan," which is Scientology terms means that she has a soul that is uninhibited by MEST, which is essentially the physical universe.

"When you really cognate that you are a thetan and you have a mind and body, and that the MEST universe does not control you - it puts things into perspective," Prepon said. "It takes the weight off you and things become very easy."

Prepon also thinks that auditing (a type of electro-therapy) has helped improve her career as an actress.

"I feel a lot of the auditing that I've had helps me to be willing to go there and be free and vulnerable and really jump into these scenes wholeheartedly,' Prepon said. "There are days where it's like, okay... let's do this! And you have to drop all of your pre-conceived ideas, or mis-emotions, or being uncomfortable and just go there. It's so gratifying and fulfilling as an artist to be able to really be there in present time, creating, with no vias. Auditing has helped so much in getting me to this place. I have more to go, and can't wait for what's to come."

The Church of Scientology has also been plagued with rumors of being unaccepting of the LGBT community. Considering Prepon plays an out and proud lesbian on Orange Is the New Black, this would presumably be a problem. However, Prepon admitted she hasn't come across such prejudice.

"I've never come across any piece of information that remotely is negative or derogatory towards the LGBT community in any way," she explained. "I'm an actress and rumors get thrown around and it's part of my job and I have to deal with it."

While Celebrity Magazine is only an exclusive to members of Scientology, the interview was leaked through a Prepon Instagram fan account.
