A smartphone, touted by some media reports as being similar to what the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be like when released, has been seen at the FCC this week.

The device actually seen was the “Galaxy Grand” which featured a 5 inch display screen, which is exactly what recent rumors had suggested the Galaxy S4 would feature. Many outlets have been interested in what the Grand looked like, as the screen size and features could give an indication about what was in store for the next generation Galaxy S smartphone.

However, apart from screen size the smartphone's other features are nowhere near as high end as rumors would suggest the Samsung Galaxy S4 would boast. The display in fact only had a 480 x 800 resolution, where as the Samsung Galaxy S4 is currently rumored to be released with a 1080p screen – which is a hugely more impressive display for users.

The Galaxy Grand also boasts other specs including an Exynos 4412 quad-core 1.4GHz processor, Android 4.1.1, JellyBean, NFC (near-field communications), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, 2100mAh battery, 4G LTE. It also looks kind of similar to the Galaxy S3 – which is a major part of the reason why media outlets have circled around the device as it could give clues to the future Galaxy S release.

The Galaxy S3 has been massively successful across the globe since its launch, and it in fact sold so well that some reports were suggesting Apple moved forward the release of its iPhone 5 to get it out on the market quicker to combat the portion of the market it was quickly losing to Samsung's top smartphone device.

Such has the success of the Samsung Galaxy S3 been, that many are already awaiting the release of the next generation model.

The Galaxy Grand will launch in South Korea some time in the near future, and the Galaxy S4 is being touted for release a few months into 2013, however, the S4's release date might have to be pushed back due to production issues with the device's display.

The follow up to the hugely popular Samsung Galaxy S3 handset is being eagerly anticipated by Android users, and rumors already are suggesting the device will feature a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED HD panel with 441ppi pixel density.

However, a source in South Korea – home of Samsung – has suggested that the company is struggling to mass produce the new screens as the displays require a hi-tech evaporation technique. According to the reports Samsung is trying to obtain advanced LITI technology from 3M that allows OLED material to be more smoothly printed on glass.

Samsung has been rumored to introduce the new displays to the world at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

That will surely continue to build excitement towards the release of the Galaxy S4, which has already been rumored to have specs of a quad-core 2.0GHz Exynos 5450 chipset. The new chipset will be faster than the one currently in the Nexus 10 and will be made on a 28nm process.

It is also believed that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature a 13-megapixel camera. This 13-megapixel sensor was originally planned for the Galaxy S3 and second-generation Galaxy Note, but due to the time schedule to get the S3 out it was decided to hold the new top level cameras back and put them into the next generation Galaxy device. A 13-megapixel shooter would be capable of capturing images with 4208 x 3120 resolution.
