It was recently revealed that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining the cast of season 7 of The Good Wife as Alex, the investigator of Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) new firm.

This also set off rumors of him being the replacement for Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) on the show and playing Alicia's new love interest. In an interview with TVLine the actor spoke about the character, his dynamic with Alicia and what sealed the deal for him.

The actor suggested that there was potential for Alicia to take an interest in him beyond work. While talking about his character's back story he revealed that he could catch Alicia's fancy. "I can tell you that he's an ex-lawyer who got into some trouble and finds himself now being an investigator. He's got a laid-back personality and a quick wit. I like that kind of dynamic. And I think it will be a nice dynamic for Julianna to play off of," he said.

When asked about the romantic possibility head-on, Morgan stated he hadn't a clue as of now. "I don't know," he said. "I haven't been told that. I know there's a lot of speculation."

But then he seemed to have added fuel to the fire when responding to how Alicia and Alex's first meeting on the show goes down. "She's going to hire him, so, yeah, they do hit it off," he said. "She's intrigued by his personality."

Finally the actor revealed that what made him say yes for the role was his great relationship with Margulies, whom he has known for about 10 years now.

"Yes. I've known her for probably 10 years. I'm excited to go to work with her," he said. "When the offer had come in I was in the middle of working [on Extant] and I had to think about it. To go from one show to another without a break was a little daunting. And I got a great e-mail from Julianna and that's what closed the deal for me. I just wrote her back and said, "I'm in."

The next chapter of the legal drama is set to premiere on CBS on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m.
