The Norsemen will up their game in season 4, heralding the Vikings' finest hours. It's an exciting time for Ragnar (Travis Fimmel), but even more so for viewers as the History channel prepares to treat viewers to some of the series' most spectacular adventures to date.

"We're really at the peak of the Golden Age of the Vikings right now, so it's when they started to conquer ever continent around the world, and the series is reflecting that," Clive Standen (Rollo) teased at San Diego Comic-Con, according to Nerdgeist. "Our great writer Michael Hirst has written these amazing episodes for the [second third of season 4] and we've got boat battles, capsizing boats and Vikings fighting on the sea, which is what they did fantastically well and we've never done it so far."

These "adventurous and insane stunts and battle sequences" will play out against a background of political and societal turmoil. In Kattegat , Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) has had a taste of power, and it seems to Queen won't be satisfied simply to rule in her husband's absence. In Paris, Rollo has turned his back on his brother and will slaughter his fellow Vikings at least once before season's end. In Wessex, King Ecbert (Linus Roche) will have to watch his back as Ragnar mulls over his plans for revenge.
