Todd spoke with The Wrap just hours ahead of the third season’s midseason finale Tuesday. After facing bankruptcy scandal rumors and having drama with his oldest son Kyle play out in reports and tabloids, Todd discussed how their family has overcome some of their toughest moments.

He said he doesn’t necessarily protect his family from being a target. Instead, he lets those moments play out without concealing them.

“We as humans all make mistakes. In order to truly be authentic and to be truthful to your fan base, they should be allowed to see your mistakes. If you make them and you own them, then learn from them. I don’t think you should hide from them.”

He added that he and his wife, Julie Chrisley, have managed to keep their marriage happy and full of laughs after going through tough times.

“We’ve weathered the storm. We’ve gone through the times in our life where we didn’t have money and then we’ve gone through the times where we had money. Then we lost money, then we’ve had it again.

"We’ve gone through the fact that Julie is a breast cancer survivor. When you’re down in the trenches with each other and you haul your way back up to where you want to be together, those are bonds that hopefully you don’t break.”

He added that they’re able to joke about Todd leaving her for a younger woman.

“You better buy her an SUV, because you’re taking five kids and two grandkids.”

Chrisley’s mindset is a factor in Chrisley Knows Best being a hit series. So much so that he has his own talkshow called Oh My Todd. That pilot was just taped Monday. On the same day, his two teen children Savannah and Chase Chrisley filmed the first episode of their spinoff Growing Up Chrisley.

“It does follow them throughout their start off in college. They’re both very excited.”
