The Once Upon a Time bosses have revealed what fans can expect from the first half of season 5.

'Once Upon a Time' Star Jennifer Morrison Admits To Feeling 'Exhausted' While Playing 'Dark' Emma

In a new video posted this week by BuddyTV, OUAT co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz speak of how the first part of season 5 will be about family.

"The first half is about is about a family in crisis," Horowitz explained. "It's about Emma and her loved ones and her family and how they're going to deal with what she's going through and how that affects her and the town."

'Once Upon a Time's Hook Still Sees The Good In Emma Just Like Belle's Love For Rumple?

As fans will recall, Emma (Jennifer Morrison) sacrificed herself to the darkness in the season 4 finale, leaving behind only a dagger with her name emblazoned on it. Now it's up to Regina (Lana Parrilla), Henry (Jared Gilmore), Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), Charming (Josh Dallas) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) to bring her back to the side of good.

While season 5 will also introduce the world of Camelot early on, the co-creators stated that internal conflict will be a big part of the season as well.

"it's really focused everything back on our characters again. It has this season 1 vibe of Regina and Emma again and everyone dealing with an internal crisis as opposed to the last couple of seasons which has been an external crisis," Kitsis shared.

And Merlin will be introduced, presented "as the opposite of the Dark One," with him being the only one who can save Emma from her darkness.

Once Upon a Time season 5 premieres on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
