Last night, I attended the United Artists Releasing Screening of Paul Thomas Anderson's "Licorice Pizza" at the SVA Theater in Manhattan. Nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay at this year's Academy Awards, the film explores how two young lovers, played by first-time actors Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman, navigate being each others' first loves in the San Fernando Valley in 1973.

With a massive cast of movie stars and award-winning darlings, there is no question that the latest from writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson will be something special come Oscar season. But with Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, and Josh Brolin set to lead the film, what chances does it have to take home the big prize?

Philip Seymour Hoffman appeared onstage at the 2013 Envision Awards in New York City on June 11 less than three weeks after checking out of rehab for detox from narcotic abuse, according to E! News. The 45-year-old actor and father of three entered a detox facility on the East Coast for a 10-day stay in May for a heroin relapse and was back to work on a movie by the end of last month. The Oscar winner struggled with substance abuse when he was in his early 20s but had not used in 23 years. Hoffman started battling addiction again over a year ago when he began abusing prescription pills and his habit escalated to snorting heroin.
