  • After nearly two decades and seven films, Hugh Jackman is finally ready to hang up his famous Wolverine role for good.

It has to be hard for some fans to accept this fact since Jackman's name has become synonymous to the anti-hero with adamantium claws. It is even harder to imagine an actor not named Hugh playing the coveted role. Even though the Australian actor once said that he is willing to play as Wolverine for a lifetime, his decision has since changed, which led to this sad news.

Don't worry fans because in the meantime, we will still be able to witness Jackman as Wolverine for his upcoming third solo film. Here are some updates regarding the Australian actor's preparation for his last X-Men movie.

  • In a recent interview, Jackman said that he has received his script for his final portrayal of Wolverine.
  • "We have a script. A full script. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished—well, it’s not finished, but we’re getting super close—as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps… yeah, it’s sooner rather than later."
  • "I don’t have a firm date yet. My thing and I’ve told you and I’ve told everyone, it’s my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it’s perfect, bang, we’ll go," said Jackman.
  • Jackman had earlier bid a farewell to Wolverine fans and thanked them for their support.
  • Actor Tom Hardy is Jackman's choice to be the next Wolverine but Fox has not announced anything about the Australian actor's potential replacements.
  • "I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories, so either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chiclken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward," said producer/writer Simon Kinberg.
  • Jackman's last "Wolverine" film is expected to premiere on March 3, 2017.
