'Okja' is an upcoming South Korean-American science fiction horror monster film directed by Bong Joon-ho and co-written by Bong and Jon Ronson. Bong is well-known and highly regard South Korean director, whose film credits include 'The Host' 'Mother' and "Snowpiercer' (which was his first English language film). Ronson is a journalist famous for writing wacky stories that often put him in the action, two of his books 'The Men Who Stare at Goats' and 'Frank' have been adapted into film.
'Okja' will reportedly tell the story of a young South Korean girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend...a massive animal named Okja. The film will reportedly be bi-lingual with action set in Korea and fictional company's headquarters in New York.
On November 10, 2015 'Okja' was picked up by Netflix and Plan B Entertainment with a budget of $50 million with a production start in late 2016 for release in 2017.
