'Okja' 2017 Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, Tilda Swinton & More

  • 'Okja' is an upcoming South Korean-American science fiction horror monster film directed by Bong Joon-ho and co-written by Bong and Jon Ronson. Bong is well-known and highly regard South Korean director, whose film credits include 'The Host' 'Mother' and "Snowpiercer' (which was his first English language film). Ronson is a journalist famous for writing wacky stories that often put him in the action, two of his books 'The Men Who Stare at Goats' and 'Frank' have been adapted into film.

    'Okja' will reportedly tell the story of a young South Korean girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend...a massive animal named Okja. The film will reportedly be bi-lingual with action set in Korea and fictional company's headquarters in New York.

    On November 10, 2015 'Okja' was picked up by Netflix and Plan B Entertainment with a budget of $50 million with a production start in late 2016 for release in 2017.

  • Jake Gyllenhaal

    Gyllenhaal has previously starred in such films as 'End of Watch', 'Prisoners', 'Nightcrawler', and 'Southpaw'. His next project also include Tom Ford’s 'Nocturnal Animals' and Antoine Fuqua’s 'The Man Who Made It Snow'.

    There's been no reported details on Gyllenhall's character.
  • Lily Collins

    In March 2016 it was announced that Lily Collins had joined the cast in one of the lead roles, just one day after signing on to star in Marti Noxon‘s dark comedy 'To the Bone'.

    Collins will reportedly play an anarchist named Red.

    Best known for her starring roles in ;Mirror Mirror and 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,' Collins will soon be seen in Warren Beatty‘s untitled Howard Hughes movie. She’s also set to star alongside Matt Bomer in Amazon’s drama pilot 'The Last Tycoon,' based on F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s unfinished final novel.
  • Tilda Swinton.

    Swinton is an award-winning and internationally actress. She won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 'Michael Clayton' and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance in 2001's 'The Deep End'.

    Her roles, both starring and supporting, have included 'Vanilla Sky','Adaptation', We Need to Talk About Kevin','Only Lovers Left Alive', the 'Chronicles of Narnia' series, 'the Curious Case of Benjamin Button', 'Burn After Reading', 'Moonrise Kingdom', 'Snowpiercer', 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Trainwreck'.

    There have been no reported details on her character in 'Okja'.
  • Ahn Seo-hyun

    Ahn is a 12-year-old South Korean child actress whose career began in 2008. She will reportly play Mira, the young girl trying to save her friend (and hunted animal) Okja.
  • Shirley Henderson.

    First gaining fame as Gail in 1996's 'Trainspotting', Henderson has gone to play in Jude in the 'Bridget Jones' movies and Moaning Myrtle in the 'Harry Potter' franchise. Her other film credits include 'Topsy-Turvy', 'Frozen', 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day' and 'Anna Karenina'. She also a regular on British television, starring opposite Robert Carlyle in the BBC series 'Hamish Macbeth', earning a BAFTA TV Award nomination for the Channel 4 miniseries 'Southcliffe' and most recently playing Frances Drummond in the BBC drama 'Happy Valley'.

    There's no word on her character for 'Okja'.
  • Paul Dano

    Best known for his work in 2007's 'There Will Be Blood' - in which he played the dual roles as Paul & Eli Sunday and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor - Dano started his career on Broadway before making his film debut in 'The Newcomers'. He also earned praise for his roles in 'Little Miss Sunshine' and '12 Years a Slave'. Most recently, His portrayal of musician Brian Wilson in 2014's 'Love & Mercy' earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

    There have been no reports on his character for 'Okja'.
  • Devon Bostick

    A Canadian actor best known for his current role as Jasper Jordan on the CW show 'The 100', Bostick also played the the lead role in the Atom Egoyan-directed film 'Adoration' and had parts in 'Saw VI' and the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' movies.

    No details are known yet about his part.
  • Steven Yeun

    Korean American actor and singer, Yuen is famous for playing Glenn Rhee on AMC's television horror drama series 'The Walking Dead'. He's also appeared in independent film and short films, and has done video game and cartoon voice overs.
