AJ Clemente, 'Kelly and Michael Show': Fired TV Anchor's Mistake Lands Him New Gig on Show [VIDEO]
A.J. Clemente, the rookie news anchor most famous for getting fired after saying the F---word during a live broadcast recently spoke out against his vulgar language and said he thinks he deserves a second chance.
Clemente appeared on NBC's TODAY show on Wednesday to talk about that the curse words he accidentally said on his first live appearance as news anchor on North Dakota's NBC affiliate KFYR.
The video clip which has gone viral showed Clemente and his co-anchor Van Tieu beginning the weekend news. Clemente appeared to be disoriented when he looked at his script and noticed that he couldn't pronounce three names of people from the London marathon. He cursed loudly while on air, and didn't realize that the show had already started.
"I didn't even know I said it on camera until my news director walked in on the third break,"
Clemente said that he has no harsh feelings for the station for firing and admitted that his behavior was inexcusable.
"I fully expected that they would fire me," he said. "I even called my news director after and apologized again. They did [what they had to do]. No animosity at all."
After his TODAY show appearance, Clemente stopped by Live! With Kelly and Michael, where he was asked by Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan if he would cover the red carpet at Thursday night's premiere of Pierce Brosnan's film, Love Is All You Need.
Strahan said to Clemente, "One thing about New Yorkers, we believe in giving second chances, man. Yesterday, we called for you. You came here today. So, we have a challenge for you if you're willing to accept it."
Ripa then chimed then and instructed Clemente to interview as many celebrities as he could and to bring the tape back to the show tomorrow.
"Yeah," Clemente said, adding, "yeah, definitely."
