Meghan Markle is a far cry from the days when the Queen needed to put her in her rightful place. When preparations were underway for her royal wedding to Prince Harry, she reportedly had her eyes set on a specific tiara.

Wedding Woes

While Prince Harry proposed with an expensive 3-stone diamond ring, he  wanted to please his bride so much he reportedly told the staff, "What Meghan wants, she gets." However, the Queen was not pleased with how the Sussexes spoke with the staff.

Royal reporter Robert Jobson revealed that there were claims from inside the palace that Meghan and Harry were told it was impossible for Meg to wear the crown she wanted. The Queen reportedly had to tell Harry that Meg cannot have just whatever she wanted.

"She gets what tiara she is given by me," the Queen reportedly said.

Buying Her Own Jewelry

Since then, the Duchess of Sussex has learned that the only way she can have the jewelry she wanted is if she would buy them herself.

Markle has exquisite taste when it comes to jewelry. However, tasteful need not be expensive. The Duchess is particularly keen about Canadian jewelry designers.

Among her go-to brands is the Montreal designer Vargas Goteo. She was previously spotted wearing a pair of rings made by the jeweler.

The Duchess has long been a supporter of Canadian designers. The earrings she wore in her engagement photo was designed by the Montreal-based jeweler Birks. After her wedding, she was spotted wearing Birks' Iconic Yellow Gold and Rose Gold and Diamond rings.

Meghan Keeps Royal Family Close to Her Heart

Just before Duchess Meghan embarked on a six-week absence from royal duties, she had her eyes set on setting her priorities right with the royal family.

Markle was very particular about honoring her immediate family -- Prince Harry and Baby Archie. The Sussex Royals rounded up their last few engagements this month, beginning at the Broom Farm Community Centre in Windsor. The couple, along with their firstborn, had a morning coffee meet-up with deployed army personnel and their families.

Markle was spotted wearing 10k gold necklaces by the Canadian jeweler Suetables. The jewelry had a special meaning for Meghan and her association with the royal family.

Meghan wore the "Shirley Zodiac" necklace to honor her husband, Prince Harry. The "Vanessa Coin Zodiac" necklace was meant to honor Baby Archie. The pendant for her son was slightly more expensive than the one for her husband.

The jewelry chosen by the Duchess represented the astrological signs of the Sussex royals. The Shirley necklace was created for Virgos like Harry who was born on Sept. 15. The Vanessa Coin necklace was designed for Taurus like Archie, whose birth date is May 6.

Meg Finds a Compromise with the Queen

The Duchess of Sussex has not completely been banned from wearing jewelry from the Royal Collection. Though the Queen Mary bandeau was not Markle's first choice, she looked like a revelation wearing the tiara during her wedding.

The Queen does allow Meghan to borrow her jewelry. Nonetheless, Markle reportedly cannot wear Princess Diana's heirlooms which are reportedly reserved in a way for Kate Middleton, future Princess of Wales.

It is the pecking order in the British royal family that Meghan has learned to follow since getting married to Prince Harry. In the meantime, her own growing collection of Canadian-designed jewelry makes elegant accessories for the Duchess, too.
