Portugal and its star striker Cristiano Ronaldo will take on a new-look Dutch team in an international friend on Wednesday.

With Manchester United star striker Robin van Persie at the helm for the Netherlands, Portugal will face a much more dangerous Dutch team than the one they eliminated in the semi-finals of the 2004 Euro Cup.

The Netherlands are well on their way to qualifying for the 2014 international tournament in Brazil, after winning their fist six qualifiers for the World Cup. Under new coach, Louis van Gaal, the Dutch team is more disciplined, as their new coach has held his players accountable for their actions. The coach showcased his no-nonsense approach by omitting the team's captain Wesley Sneijder from the game against Portugal.

Van Persie will replace Sneijder as the team's captain for the game. Van Gaal claimed Sneijder needed to improve his physical condition before he was considered for the Netherland's international games

"He is not out of sight, but he must first get in shape," the coach told ESPN FC. "Then he will probably play with his qualities.''

Potugal will find that the Van Gaal-run Dutch team are even better than the squad the faced at the Euro 2012 tournament. Portugal enjoyed a 2-1 victory in the group stage to send the Netherlands packing in the event.

Portugal has been less than stellar in their World Cup qualifiers, however. They lead their group but are only two points ahead of Russia. And last season they most notably drew with Israel in a game where they had to come from behind.
