Katie Holmes got to relax after weeks of performing in her Broadway show "Dead Accounts" when she attended a cast party for the show this week.

Holmes and other members of "Dead Accounts" cast and crew attended the Broadway Dreams Foundation annual Champagne & Caroling Gala on Monday. People magazine reported that she spent time with her lawyer at the party and enjoyed champagne but didn't eat any ribs or crab cake.

The play garnered bad reviews from most publications, which has Holmes upset and discouraged because she loves the play so much, Radar Online reported.

"Katie was devastated about the reviews because she's always been so passionate about Broadway," a source said. "It was her first love, well before she starred in 'Dawson's Creek' or any Hollywood movies. Appearing on Broadway was her childhood dream."

But the actress, who endured a high-profile divorce from actor Tom Cruise over the summer, is determined to salvage "Dead Accounts" and make the most of her time on the Broadway stage. The source added that the 33-year-old is "adamant that she has to put it right" and that she will do whatever is necessary to make sure the play comes out as a success.

"She's spoken to the writers and producers about possible ways to tweak and improve the production, while taking some of the critics' words about her own performance on board," the insider said. "Katie doesn't care if it means taking part in extra rehearsals because she's determined to make it work.

Getting her career back on track post Tom Cruise has been one of Katie's priorities and this is the first step in doing that -- she wants to get it right."

"Dead Accounts" runs on Broadway until Feb. 24. The play is about a brother, a sister, "and a surprise reunion that turns their family upside down," according to the show's official website. "A $27 million secret proves that the truth can be complicated."
