Fans of ABC’s Scandal and self-proclaimed gladiators are anxiously awaiting the series to make its highly anticipated return later this year. In the meantime, a few spoiler alerts reveal the shocking drama we’ll witness.

Last time we saw Olivia Pope and President Fitz was when he finally gave his wife Mellie the boot. But what does this mean for Olivia and the Chief-Of-Staff? Well, in the past the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes (who is also the brains behind successful shows like Grey’s Anatomy and ABC’s latest How To Get Away With Murder, has said that she wants to have a “presidential divorce” play out on the series. It looks like they have gotten closer than ever as Fitz kicked Mellie out of the oval office and White House together.

But we know she has managed to creep back in on plenty occasions. So this one might not be any different.

Especially since Rhimes is staying tight lipped and refuses to “comment on future story lines.”

But there’s also word that Pope might (emphasis on MIGHT) be sitting the President’s chair herself.

As for when the series will make its long awaited return to ABC? Viewers will be saying Thank God Its Thursday (TGIT) once again on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9/8c. Also returning that day is Grey’s Anatomy at 8/7c and How To Get Away With Murder at 10/9c.

It’s safe to say that’s quite the lineup for ABC.
