The official Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1, JellyBean update will reportedly be released sometime in January 2013.

Galaxy S2 owners have been eagerly anticipating the release of the software, and although latest reports out state that the latest versions are stable and good, it is still a month away from launch.

Many were expecting the roll out to begin in November, but that scheduled release came and went without any release being made to users. At that time no future release date was offered by Samsung. However, it now appears as though the wait is finally almost over.

The Android 4.1, JellyBean update for the Samsung Galaxy S2 is rumored to come pre-installed on the new "Plus" variant that is being released by Samsung.

The new device, which will take on the name Galaxy S2 Plus, will be sold with Android 4.1.2. Specifications include a 4.3-inch WVGA screen, a rear 8-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a taste of JellyBean.

The software will also offer a New TouchWiz UI along with a redesigned keyboard, improved functionality for NFC connections, and Google Now integration.

A leaked version of the software was already leaked at the end of last month in a new ROM. It appeared for installation in XDA-Dev threads and carried with it many of the latest features available to those using the official build of Jelly Bean.

The official firmware has a build number of I9100XXLSJ.
