Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III had some encouraging words for his Dallas rival Tony Romo on Sunday night.

After the game between the Redskins and the Cowboys, Griffin ran straight for the Dallas quarterback and gave him a big hug followed by some words of wisdom.

"Hey Tony. I just wanted to say to you, don't listen to what anybody else is saying about you. You're a great quarterback, man. And this game doesn't mean anything," Griffin said to Romo as overheard by NFL Films microphones, according to NBC Sports.

The comments made by 22-year-old Griffin to 32-year-old Romo aired Wednesday night on "Inside the NFL" on Showtime.

Romo was not at the top of his game and paved the way for Dallas's defeat by tossing three soul-crushing interceptions and threw just over 200 yards which all overshadowed his two touchdown throws.

However, Griffin came out with a strong performance and strengthened his argument for the honor of being named NFL Rookie of the Year.

Griffin's comments were likely made knowing that Romo would face harsh criticism for his handling of the game which has been common after other games in the season.

Whether or not Romo was in the mood to take comments from a rookie didn't matter as Griffin used his tact to try and soften the blow of defeat.

When Griffin told Romo that the game didn't mean anything, it was not entirely true as the week 17 game ended with the Washington Redskins winning the NFC East 28-18, taking away Dallas Cowboy's hopes for the playoff season.

This is the first NFC East title for the Redskins since 1999.

The Redskins await the arrival of the Seattle Seahawks for the first round of the playoffs. The game starts at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6.
