Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) is in a "tricky" situation on ABC's Once Upon a Time as he tries to save the woman he loves from the dark side.

Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook fans were inconsolable in the season 4 finale as she sacrificed herself to the darkness in order to save Storybrooke. Of course, this was after she finally told Hook that she loved him.

Now, Hook has to do his best to save Emma, who has turned into the Dark One, while trying to not get sucked into the darkness at the same time.

Will Emma Meet The Very First Dark One On 'Once Upon a Time' This Season?

Once Upon a Time co-creator Adam Horowitz explained to Entertainment Tonight recently about the Hook-Emma situation going forward.

"Well, that's an interesting thing to talk about because Hook is a person who has had much darkness in him," Horowitz noted. "And he has been around for hundreds of years battling that, and he has spent a large portion of that trying to kill a Dark One."

And as fate would have it, Horowitz said, "Now, he's spending a large portion of his time trying to save a Dark One. He's also a person who has flirted with darkness for a very long time, so seeing what Emma is going to go through is going to be a tricky situation."

This season will be big one for Hook and his past. Horowitz said that they would be delving into his past again, including a trip back to the Jolly Roger. Will Hook continue to evolve as a person or will the darkness send him spiraling back to his past?

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
