Imitation, as they say, is the sincerest form of flattery.

Fallout 4 Lore Dump: Catch Up On The Backstory

In that case, Bungie, the creator of Destiny, should be incredibly flattered. It seems that Bethesda used Destiny's hailed shooting mechanics as a reference point while revamping the infamously clunky gunplay in Fallout 4.

And they did so with the help of Josh Hamrick, who had recently left Bungie to become Bethesda's Senior Systems Designer. One of Hamrick's main focuses in his new position was on "tuning [Fallout 4's] firearms."

Doing so was no easy task. Fallout 4 will include not just dozens, or even hundreds, but thousands of guns, according to director Todd Howard.

Howard also stated that, while Fallout 4 is at its core a role-playing game, there is obviously a heavy first-person shooter element to it as well. Because of this, Bethesda needed to ensure that the gameplay mechanics lived up to the current standard that Destiny has set for fans of FPS games.

Fallout 4 will implement a "VATS system," which will allow players to slow down time Matrix-style in order to aim at specific parts of an enemy's body. Says Howard, "If you're building your character for VATS, it's really powerful."

Fallout 4 is less than a week away at this point, so we're sure to find out more about the game as the release date approaches. Check back with us in the days leading up to Nov. 10 for the latest from Bethesda.
