Katie Couric appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel late night talk show Thursday and confessed that she once went out on an awkward date with former CNN host Larry King, where he even tried to "lunge" at her.

Couric, the 56-year-old ABC correspondent, said more than 20 years ago, Larry King, the retired Larry King Live host, took her on a date to an Italian restaurant in Washington where the waiter insisted on seating them side-by-side and they then ended back at King's apartment.

Although Kimmel refused to believe any of the story was true, Couric claimed King's recollection is "very different," from hers. She took Kimmel down memory lane, revealing how she met King..

"So I was about 30 years old, and I was going through this period of my life that I was like I'm going to go out with anybody that asks me because you learn something new about them...So I met Larry at this restaurant and what can I say Jimmy? I was wearing a leather skirt," she said.

King had called Couric to have dinner and she decided to accept his invitation because she thought it would be "be very interesting to have dinner Larry King."

"He picks me up from my apartment and he was driving a Lincoln town car...We go to this Italian restaurant. They put us right next to each like they do all men and their nieces," she said.

Couric said her dinner with King was "nice enough," but caught a little surprise on her way home.

"We're driving home and I see we're going over Memorial Bridge and that's not the way back to my apartment. So I said, 'Larry, where are we going?' He goes, 'My place.' And I was like 'Oh, mother of God. Oh God'...We walk in and it's covered with proclamations like 'Larry King Day.'

"So we sat there and what can I say? He lunged."

Kimmel joked and said Couric could've been King's 13th wife.

"The whole situation was like out of a bad lifetime movie," Couric said.

Couric eventually told King that she'd prefer to date someone a little closer in age, and asked to take her home.

"I was only 30, I just could not figure out how to extracite myself," she said. "Larry has no memory of any of this."
