Christmas 2015 was the year of the hoverboard, the wildly popular 2-wheeled personal transportation device dubbed the hottest item of the holiday season. As BuzzFeed lists, dads attempting to ride the new gadget led to comical hoverboard fails. Despite making national headlines for literally catching on fire and/or exploding, the hoverboard segway is the one gift predominantly kids were looking to score. In revelation of fire incidents involving hoverboards, concerned parents opted for other gift, while some gave kids a fire extinguisher along with it--just in case.

Social media is flooded with posts of people gliding along on their new high tech toy. Snapchat stories in particular are a haven for new hoverboard riders to show off their graceful self balancing skills. On the other side of the spectrum, some people just don't have the coordination that is needed properly operate a hoverboard, and look cool doing it. Hoverboard segway epic fails compilations are popping up on Vine and YouTube, showcasing that not everyone is gifted with the art of balance.

Seemingly everyone got a hoverboard this year and kids, teens, twenty-something year-olds and older grown ups alike are all experiencing hoverboard fails. According to The Hill, 35-year-old congressman Rep. Carlos Curbelo injured his arm riding his daughter's hoverboard on Christmas. Baseball player and father of two, Dan Uggla, 35, also took had a hoverboard fail when he wiped out while scooting around with his kids.

People took to Twitter over the weekend to express that either they or someone they know ate the floor, sprained a muscle, fractured or broke a bone or broke the entire hoverboard altogether. Emergency rooms across the globe will likely see an increase in hoverboard injuries as we wrap of 2015 and ring in 2016. If you didn't get a hoverboard for Christmas, take comfort in the fact that you won't have to worry the embarrassment of an epic hoverboard fail.
