Supernatural's Lucifer didn't while away five seasons in hell all by himself, and now that the Dark Prince is back, viewers are wondering what's become of his cellmate.

Two bodies and four entities tumbled into the pit at the end of season 5, but Sam's (Jared Padalecki) recent visions only showed one fallen angel chilling in his cage. When Sam comes face to face with Luci (Mark Pellegrino), the Devil is moved to a separate cage. So, where are Michael and the tortured soul of the Winchester's half brother?

The only answer that the cast and crew would give to this question appears to reference Sam and Lucifer's meeting, to which co-executive producer Jim Michaels told fans "there are many cages in Hell..."

As to why Michael didn't appear in Sam's visions, viewers must use their imagination. Was it because Lucifer was controlling the visions so that Sam only saw what he wanted him to? That is just one logical explanation, and we'd like to here your best guesses in the comments below!
