Karen Millen held a launch event on Feb. 13 to debut her spring/summer collection for 2013, where the public was invited to her Prince Street, NYC, store to look at new pieces and enjoy cocktails and music.

The collection emphasizes simplicity, with a focus on "multi-layered rather than thematic, the collection spans soft fluid volume to crisp tailoring, subtle futuristic embellishment to streamlined sportswear, Sixties Modernist influences to Japanese-inspired silhouettes," according to a statement by the brand.

Each garment, created at the company's in-house atelier in Shoreditch, London, was fitted up to six times to ensure its flattering fit on a woman's body. In the end, 30 pieces were chosen to sum up the vision of the new collection.

Many of the pieces are made from cottons, satins, leather and mesh-like fabrics. Staying true to already set trends and new ones expected for the spring/summer season, the new Millen collection embraced monochrome, floral prints- lots of Japanese iris prints- and pastels.

A dress with black and white blocking paired with a tweet jacket or ostrich-effect tote, and monochrome pointy toe pumps are for any occasion, as well as a blue floral trench coat, with matching pants and a peplum top. The floral pieces have a "lingerie inspired detailing" to them to bring a "boudoir essence into the blend," according to the brand.

By referencing traditional Japanese silhouettes, pieces from the Geisha Boudoir section of the collection include palettes of blues and greens, mixed with nudes, Ombre color effects and black. Choose from a head-to-toe floral print look or an Origami-inspired ruffled frill.

Leather has already become a fashion staple this season and a capsule of the collection focuses on summer leather, such as leather paneled coats, dresses and shoes to pair with crystal encrusted studded sweatshirts and metallic jeans. Leather jackets are "iconic" within the Millen brand, according to Managing and Creative Director Gemma Metheringham.

Neon fashion also made an appearance with yellow and bright green structured jackets, dresses, pencil skirts and shirts.

The face of the Mirren spring/summer 2013 collection is Amber le Bon, eldest daughter of model Yasmin Le Bon and lead singer of Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon.
