Now that FX's American Horror Story: Hotel is over, where does it fall on your season ranking?

'American Horror Story' Boss Confirms Angela Bassett Returning For Season 6?

American Horror Story: Hotel brought back some of the fast-paced, frenetic storytelling of seasons like Murder House and Coven. The season featured ghosts, bloodsuckers, creatures and psychological warfare. Lady Gaga made her debut major acting performance. Denis O'Hare and Paulson inhabited outrageous yet sympathetic new characters.

But was Hotel one of the best seasons of American Horror Story yet, or one of the worst? Ultimately, it's all a matter of taste. This season featured a lot of sex, blood and violence, even compared to past seasons. Some may have been turned off by the visceral style, while others found it in keeping with the show's dark tone.

Why Lady Gaga Was 'Miserable' Before 'American Horror Story'

There were also many different storylines, from The Countess (Gaga) and her cavalcade of men, John Lowe (Wes Bentley) and his descent into madness, Sally's (Paulson) desperation for love, Iris (Kathy Bates) and Donovan (Matt Bomer) family drama and Liz Taylor (O'Hare) a scene-stealing force of nature.

The visuals featured throughout the season, from the ornate architecture of the hotel lobby to the costume design were certainly memorable and well crafted. The series is well known for crafting unique characters, as is the case with Liz Taylor, Sally and The Countess.

Some of the storytelling in Hotel was arguably convoluted, from all the complicated rules involved with dying inside the hotel to various storylines starting and stopping randomly. It was a chaotic season, to be sure.
