Oh Adam, where art thou?

'Supernatural' Season 11: What's Next For Claire & Team Free Will? Kathryn Newton Teases 'Surprising' Episode

Supernatural's Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) barely know their half brother, but that doesn't mean the Winchesters have forgotten that his soul is still trapped in hell with Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) and Michael. Now that Luci is out of the Cage and Team Free Will must launch a hellish rescue mission to save Sam, the topic of Adam (Jake Abel) is on the table once more.

"The show will touch on it lightly, at this point," showrunner Jeremy Carver teased ahead of the midseason premiere, according to TV Line. "That's for a couple different reasons, which I could probably [address] better at the end of the season than right now. But there'll be some discussion of that coming up right after the break."

'Supernatural' Season 11: Renewal In The Cards? CW Boss Speaks Out

What shape is Adam's soul even in after spending five and a half seasons as the archangels' chew toy? It certainly wouldn't be able to go back into its human vessel, especially now that Death is out of the picture. In other words, don't expect Adam to be hanging out on Earth anytime soon.

Adam was dead when the Winchesters met a pseudo-version of him, and his role in the series was only meant to be temporary, Padalecki previously explained.

"[Now] I think they are concerned that if we brought him back it would really...be kind of poking the bear," the actor said. "So, as much as we like Jake [Abel], it's probably best that Adam stay in hell."
