The cast of Les Miserables united on stage at the Academy Awards Sunday to perform tunes from their film as part of a tribute to the growing number of big-screen musicals during the last decade.

The performance included Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, Sasha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Banks. Before they were joined on stage by others that helped them perform, Jennifer Hudson sang And I Am Telling You from her 2006 film Dreamgirls and Catherine Zeta-Jones performed a song and dance from her film Chicago.

Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2007 for her role in Dreamgirls and Zeta-Jones won the same award in 2003.

Les Miserables was up for eight Oscars at the Academy Awards including Best Picture. Jackman was nominated in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role for playing Jean Valjean in the classic novel's film adaptation.

Hathaway took home the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Fantine, a dying prostitute left to give her young daughter over to the care of a former prisoner (Jackman) who is chased throughout his life by a ruthless officer (Crowe). She was nominated alongside Sally Fields, Amy Adams, Helen Hunt and Jacki Weaver.

In her acceptance speech, the first thing she said was "It came true." Hathaway has been nominated for an Oscar only once before - in 2009 for her leading role in Rachel Getting Married.
