Two New York City police officers who fatally shot a teenage boy, who they claim pointed a gun at them, have reportedly been put on administrative duty.

The Christian Science Monitor reported that the police fatally shot Kimani Gray, 16, who was with a group of other males in Brooklyn when he fled from them on Saturday night.

Authorities said that Gray was acting suspiciously, and undercover officers in an unmarked vehicle initially identified themselves when they approached him.

Police said that the boy then aimed a .38-caliber revolver at the officers, who then responded by firing a slew of shots, hitting him several times. Gray was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

Police say the late teen's revolver was loaded with four live rounds of bullets.

According to the New York Post, police said that Gray had a rap sheet that included grand larceny and inciting a riot.

The news publication also reported that Gray's friends said that Grey had been pleading with the cops as they opened fire.

"He was screaming, 'Stop! I'm not running!'" said friend Devonte Brown, 16.

Neighbors gave confirmation that they heard the gunfire throughout the area.

"I heard a lot of shots, rapid fire, about eight shots. I heard the gun shots from my living room," said a resident.

WPIX-TV reported that another witness, Camille Johnson, saw the tragedy unfold first-hand.

"He was running for his life, telling the cops, 'Stop.' They really are, seriously, walking around, shooting little kids."
