Due to New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez being on the shelf until at least the All-Star break due to hip surgery, the team finds themselves in dire need of more offense, which is why they're reportedly trying to bolster it by getting superstar Chipper Jones to come out of retirement.

The New York Post reported that Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said on Monday that he would be looking to sign the longtime Atlanta Braves standout to play either first base, third base or DH.

However, the site did go on to specify that Cashman is the one who started the buzz by telling reporters that they should tweet that Chipper should contact New York if he's interested in donning the Yankees pinstripes because the GM didn't have the phone number for Jones' agent.

Jones' agent, Joel Sherman, actually came out of the woodwork on Monday and responded to the NY Post's BB Abbott tweet by giving the following response:

"I will tell u what he (Chipper) has told me: he is retired and not planning to come back at all." The agent also added that Jones wouldn't want to mess up his Braves image by playing for another club, but "would be flattered" by an interest from the Yankees.

Jones himself actually responded to the media hoopla on his own Twitter on the same day by stating, "Enough with the rumors! While I am flattered about the speculation of being enticed out of retirement, I'm happy with life as a bad golfer!"
