Scorpion closed out its freshman run with a literal cliffhanger, and while the series won't dangle anyone over a precipice in "Toby or not Toby", fans should brace themselves for a long hiatus full of speculation.

From a surprise return to some major relationship drama, executive producer Nicholas Wootton dished on the finale at Wondercon.

"The finale really propels us very strongly into season 3 on the emotional side with both sets of love affairs in the office. We'll call one a love affair and we'll call one a love affair to be," Wootton told EnStars on Saturday. "But that's really what we're very excited about as we move forward."

Quintis fans might be particularly pleased as Toby asks a particularly important question (is there a ring involved, hmmm?). Whatever query the behaviorist has for his mechanic girlfriend, he'll present it in typical genius fashion. With IQs that high, there's no telling what will go down.

"There's two gigantic cliff hangers at the end of the season. There's a huge, big twist that is coming in the final episode that we're all very excited for [and] that we've been planning for a very long time," Wootton explained. "I will not tell you what it is, but I'm very, very excited about it and I guarantee you, you will not see it coming."

Scorpion generally never revisits old cases, but the finale will set a new precedent. Someone from the team's past is returning, and there's no telling how they will shake up the story. Apparently, Walter's genius conglomerate's been receiving a little too much attention thanks to Sly's Price Is Right domination.

"That might be something we go into in the finale," Wootton teased. "Maybe on of our faves, our personal faves, comes back in episode 22/23."
