Weddings are expensive. That pretty much goes without saying; between the dress, the cake, the venue, and making sure your guests have a great time, you can end up putting down serious cash for your nuptials. Or at least, comparatively speaking -- because a recent wedding takes even the most lavish of affairs and makes it look like a bargain-basement event. Newlywed couple Khadija Uzhakhovs and Said Gutseriev got married in a style no one will soon be duplicating; their wedding cost a reported $1 billion. If you're wondering how such a thing is even possible, read on and get ready to be blown away by a truly over-the-top event.

Floral Fantasy

Said Gutseriev isn't your average 28-year-old: he's the son of Mikhael Gutseriev, the Russian oil and media magnate. And when he decided to tie the knot with 20-year-old university student Khadija Uzhakhovs, he knew his ultra-wealthy father would foot the bill. That means not sparing a single expense, including booking one of the most lavish locations in Moscow for the venue. Flowers literally covered the walls and ceilings of the beautiful hotel in a display that was as breathtaking as it was opulent. But even this visual treat paled in comparison to other delights offered by the happy couple.

Dress To Impress

Don't kid yourself: the wedding is about the bride, and the bride is about the dress. With literally no limit to her budget, Khadija Uzhakhovs opted for a one-of-a-kind Elie Saab dress, imported from Paris and made to her specifications. The glittering jewel of a gown is rumored to have cost upwards of $25,000. But all that beauty comes at more than a financial cost: the dress ended up weighing about 28 pounds.

Musical Guests

When you're dropping this much money on your big day, you're not going to be satisfied with a DJ or a local cover band no matter how good they might be. You're going for name recognition, with the type of entertainment that will leave jaws dropped (and wallets emptied). With that in mind (and let's keep stressing the whole 'billion dollar budget'), it shouldn't be entirely shocking that the enamored couple hired Jennifer Lopez, Sting, and Enrique Iglesias to be their wedding band.

Let Them Eat Cake

Now you're ready for what really matters at a wedding: the food. Guests dined on exquisitely fresh sushi flown in just for the occasion, plus a veritable feast of delicacies from all around the globe. But what it really comes down to is the cake. For cake lovers, this celebration is a dream come true. Feast your eyes on this architectural wonder: nine-tiers of confectionary delight, and easily twice as tall as the happy couple. Intricate white icing detailed the whole thing, and it was covered with fresh floral garlands. When you've got 600 guests to keep happy, size does matter.

Had your fill of over-priced wedding parties? Bad news: this is only part one of the epic celebration. Rumor has it, Beyonce and Elton John will be performing at the second party. Ain't love grand?
