Kordell Stewart, who is married to Porsha Stewart, from season 5 of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta, filed for divorce on March 22.

Porsha, 31, tweeted a note of thanks Tuesday for the outpour of support she has received.

"Thank you for your prayers," Porsha wrote on Twitter. The reality star also posted an inspirational message on Instagram that indicated how she is handling the breakup

"Difficult moments, seek God," the image read on the social media site. "Quiet moments, worship God. Painful moments, trust God. Every moment, thank God."

Kordell, who previously played professional football for the Pittsburgh Steelers, filed a petition for divorce in Fulton County, Ga, according to Access Atlanta. Kordell is seeking a divorce because their marriage is "irretrievably broken," according to the petition.

The couple had been married less than two years - they wed on May 21, 2011. A rep for Porsha confirmed the split in a report and said their client is "disappointed."

"Mrs. Stewart is disappointed about her husband's recent filing for divorce," Porsha's rep told Us Weekly. "Mrs. Stewart had held off on filing for a divorce herself and remained committed to the marriage because Mr. Stewart promised to work on the marriage with her."

The rep revealed that Porsha was unaware that he intended to file the petition- she learned through the press.

"She found out about the filing in the media," said the rep. "Mrs. Stewart hopes to resolve these personal issues privately with the support of her family, friends and strong faith."

Porsha often stated throughout season 5 that she loves being a "trophy wife." In the opening sequence of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta she says, "People say I have a picture-perfect life, and I do." 

A source close to Porsha said the reality star, who deeply loves her husband, is "completely blindsided" about the divorce news.

"She was 100 percent completely blindsided," a friend of Porsha's told Us Weekly. "Friends are trying to contact her but she's not picking up her phone or returning texts,"

The couple had displayed marital discord throughout season 5. Earlier in the season, Kordell told Porsha she would need to choose between her career and her family after she expressed a desire to have a child. The reality star does not have any children.

In episode 17, Porsha and her castmates left their husbands at home and went on a trip together to Los Angeles then Las Vegas. When they arrived in Sin City, Porsha refused to go to a strip club with her castmates because her husband told her not to.

In episode 18, Porsha had a heart-to-heart conversation with her husband about what the rest of the castmates said about him forbidding her going to the club during their Las Vegas trip. After Porsha told Kordell that her friends think he is too controlling, he said her friends "don't understand is that you respect what you have."

"I'm in control in general, I'm a man, I have a responsibilities," Kordell told his wife. "I'm in control, but I'm not controlling," he explained about their marriage.

In Sunday's episode, Porsha sought marital advice from a marriage counselor to discuss her problems with Kordell.

The season 5 finale of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta will air Sunday, March 24 at 8/7c on Bravo
