Sofia Vergara went back to her roots. The Modern Family star lightened her locks back to its original shade in anticipation of the summer months.

Vergara posted a new "selfie" (self-portrait) on Instagram on Tuesday that showed off her blonde tresses with minimal makeup.

The 40-year-old, who is originally blonde, revealed that she went back to her natural hair color on the social media site with the caption: "Blond ambitions!! Gracias to the amazing Kelly Klain, I'm ready for summer!"

Vergara said previously that she dyed her naturally blonde hair because "it didn't match the Hollywood stereotype for a Latina woman."

"I think I should have always had dark hair," Vergara told People.

Vergara said in another interview she darkened her hair because her former naturally blonde hair didn't match her personality and Colombian accent in showbiz.

"I'm a natural blonde, Vergara told Self magazine.  "The moment I dyed my hair dark, it was, 'Oh, she's the hot Latin girl.' I loved it," she said of Hollywood casting directors, adding: "I'd always felt a little 'too much' as a blonde, like a big-mouth version of Pamela Anderson. Being brunette toned me down a bit."
