In a film where your favorite characters are simultaneously the protagonists and the antagonists, who are you supposed to root for? When Captain America: Civil War hits theaters, fans will quickly find themselves wondering if they picked the right side.

For months, the MCU has asked its legions of devote viewers to throw their lot in with either the First Avenger or the world's snarkiest scientist (Team Cap all the way, right here!). Once the Marvel logo flashes on the screen, however, all bets are off.

"It's super important to us that you have a very difficult time choosing who you're rooting for," co-director Joe Russo told Entertainment Weekly. "It doesn't break down very cleanly in the movie. There's a theme of brotherhood and rivalry between Cap and Tony that goes to some very complicated places."

As if matters weren't complicated enough, there will be those who seek to benefit from the superhero rift. Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) is shrouded in mystery, but Entertainment Weekly promises his true intentions will become increasing clear as he attempts to stack the deck for the title fight. Described as a "manipulative figure who is positioning the heroes against each other," the comic book baddie will ditch his purple mask but keep his knack for subterfuge.
