They're celebrating ten years of marriage next month, but there was a time not long after their wedding when those close to Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman thought for sure that the couple's marriage was completely doomed.

Urban has been very open through the years about his struggles with addiction before he married Kidman, and his relapse not long after their marriage, which led to a stint in rehab. He has even credited her over time for being a strong presence in his life who supported him through every step of his recovery process. Now, for the first time, the country singer's uncle is opening up to discuss that time, and even admitted that Urban's loved ones didn't think the marriage was going to survive such a huge scandal.

In a new interview, the uncle reveals that Urban quickly returned to his bad habits not long after marrying Kidman in June 2006, and admits that there wasn't a lot of hope that Kidman would stick around because of it.

"After the wedding, he went back to dope and booze and had a relapse," the uncle says. "I thought the marriage would fall apart after that point, but he went to rehab and managed to kick it."

He also reveals that the family credits Kidman for sticking by Urban's side, and that their love for one another was ultimately what got him through such a hardship.

"None of us expected it to last...That's credit to her," he said. "It's as much for Nicole and his love for her."

Urban has shared his regrets about not being sober when he first met his wife in the past, but also said before that he thought dealing with his demons like they did, as a couple, made their relationship so much stronger, and he even attributed it to being a part of their success.

"On the one hand, there were times early on when I wished I would have been sober and in recovery and everything when I met Nic, and I wasn't," he told The Huffington Post last year. "But the other way to look at it, which is a much better way and so true, is that we've been able to build our relationship with that...We've been able to build that together. That wasn't something that was in place before met her, so there's a real power in that as well, and I think it's given us a really powerful foundation."
