The promo for the Survivor: Kaoh Rong all but confirms whether the season will conclude with a Final Two or Final Three.

Survivor fans have been eagerly buzzing that this season may conclude with an increasingly elusive Final Two rather than a Final Three. With only four players left heading into the two-hour season finale, plus the prevalence of medical evacuations messing up production's schedule, some have speculated that this season will in fact end in classic Survivor fashion.

Now, a new CBS promo suggests that this season will conclude with a Final Two. The promo states that the final episode will have "three Tribal Councils," which likely means one to boot the fourth placer, one to boot the third placer and then Final Tribal Council.

Survivor has not concluded with a Final Two since Cagayan, season 28. The series previously ended with Final Two scenarios in seasons 1-12 plus seasons 16 and 18. All other seasons have ended with a Final Three.

This should be an exciting development for Survivor purists. The series was designed to have one person voted out each week until you couldn't vote anyone else out - hence the Final Two. The show began the Final Three transition with season 13, Survivor: Cook Islands. It is suggested that Terry Deitz being voted out in third place the previous season is part of what led them to adopt the Final Three twist. Previously, there had been a reputation among players voted out in third place as being the people who "should have won" the game, such as Rob Cesternino in Amazon, Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien in Marquesas and Lex van den Berghe in Africa.

It will be interesting to see how the current group of four potentially whittles its way down to two. There are no distinctive pairs left in the game, so we could see any number of scenarios go down in the final episode.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
