There's one grave for rent in Rosewood - shallow, off the beaten path, and desperately in need of an occupant. Unfortunately for their friends and family, the Pretty Little Liars will find a lessee before you know it.

Pretty Little Liars' season 7 premiere gave fans a dreary peek at the not too distant future, and it's one that has Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), and Emily (Shay Mitchell) stressing. The flashforward took place 4 days after Hanna's (Ashley Benson) alleged "rescue," but it will take the series as many weeks to get there.

"We will find out in the first half of the season, season 7A. We will see who that grave is being dug for," executive producer Charlie Craig told The Hollywood Reporter. "We will catch up with that moment - sooner rather than later, actually."

The mystery of the grave's occupant goes hand in hand with another question - why isn't Hanna helping her fellow Liars put spade to earth? The quartet usually covers up their messes as a group, but their thoroughly traumatized co-conspirator is nowhere to be found. Does that mean Hanna could find herself six-feet under?

"Despite the fact that Hanna escaped, she got out of the clutches seemingly of A.D. - who knows they still could be digging that grave for her. We don't know what's happening between now and then," showrunner Marlene King to Entertainment Weekly, revealing that the grave will come back into play in episode three or four. "That was our biggest exciting tease of this first part of this first half of season 7 is who is that hole for, and why are the girls so terrified and frightened, and why isn't Hanna helping them dig it?"
