They might come from totally different ends of the world, have very little in common on paper (with the exception of their Hollywood careers, of course), yet they are madly in love and apparently very attracted to one another. That's why fans can't help but wonder why Liam Hemsworth is giving Miley Cyrus a second try even though the couple called off their engagement several years ago.

And now Hemsworth himself is being forced to defend his proposal to the controversial pop star while people are still wondering why he even got down on one knee in the first place.

Speaking to Australia's GQ Magazine this month, Hemsworth said the decision wasn't "impulsive" and that it was a "well-thought out idea" from both him and Cyrus, even though he was just 22 and she was only 19 at the time. The couple's relationship began when they met on the set of their 2010 film, The Last Song.

Talking about the split that followed, he explained, "Of course it was hard, man. But at the time we were going in different directions and it's just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time--we both needed that."

He added, "I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it. I make my decisions about what's going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do - and I don't worry too much outside of that."

And while Hemsworth and Cyrus have definitely rekindled their relationship, there's no word on whether they plan on making it official again anytime soon.
