The season 11 finale of Fox's Bones will largely be centered around Brennan (Emily Deschanel).

Fox has released the official plot synopsis for the season 11 finale of Bones, which is titled "The Nightmare Within the Nightmare". The synopsis reveals that the finale will feature the return of The Puppeteer, the infamous serial killer introduced in this season's 13th episode, "The Monster in the Closet".

Here is "The Nightmare Within the Nightmare" synopsis:

"The team dives back into investigating a serial killer from the past, attempting to find 'The Puppeteer,' who lives with his victims' bodies before disposing of them. Meanwhile, Brennan works through her guilt over her retirement last year, blaming herself for not stopping the serial killer earlier. However, little does she know she might be in some trouble of her own in the all-new 'The Nightmare in the Nightmare' season finale episode of BONES."

However, you probably shouldn't expect a big resolution for The Puppeteer storyline in the finale. Bones executive producer Michael Peterson previously revealed that this story arc could extend into season 12, a.k.a. the show's final season.

"We'll probably look at them one more time in this season and one more time next season," he told TVGuide.com back in April. "If we're having fun we might go a little longer, but you can expect one more this season and one more [in Season 12]."

Guest stars for this episode include Ryan O'Neal as Max Keenan, Michael Grant Terry as Wendell Bray, Tim Guinee as Dr. Brandon Faulk, Todd Giebenhain as Graham Redding, Japheth Gordon as Aiden Goodman, Soyna Leslie as Attending Orderly, Sunnie Pelant as Christine Booth and Stacie Theon as Female Clerk.

The finale won't air until Thursday, July 21 in the regular Bones timeslot. The show is currently taking a break for a few weeks, returning on Thursday, July 14 for the penultimate episode.

Bones airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
