The attorney for Katherine Russell, the wife of dead Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, said his client was in the dark about her husband's malicious plot.

Katherine's lawyer, Amato DeLuca, told AP that she did not suspect anything was wrong and only realized that her husband was a suspect in the Boston bombing until she saw it on television.

"When this allegedly was going on, she was working, and had been working all week to support her family," DeLuca said.

Meanwhile, the friends of the 24-year-old wife who had dropped out of college and converted to Islam for her late husband, said she had been 'brainwashed' by the suspect.

Another friend told the DailyMail: "I saw her like a few months ago and she was just totally transformed. She was not the same person at all."

Those close to her told Daily Mail Katherine was "totally transformed" by Tamerlan. In high school her motto was "Do something about it or stop complaining," and she dreamed of going to college and joining the Peace Corps. She urged her friends to "lighten up and enjoy the small things in life."

Katherine was on the dance team in high school and had big dreams before she met her 26-year-old Islamic husband, who is now accused with his brother of killing three and injured more than 140 at the Boston Marathon on April 15.

She was photographed over the weekend wearing a hijab and going back to the home she shared with Tsarnaev to collect a few belongings, while her daughter and another woman waited in a white Volvo for her.
