In Long Island, N.Y. on Friday, a pit bull made a surprise rescue when he saved a woman from a burning fire, as flames started to spread front the front to the rear of her home.

According to NBC News, Jackie Bonasera was blow-drying her hair in an upstairs bathroom of the Gabrielle Drive residence in East Norwich when she heard her canine, named Cain, barking. She then noticed that the side of her garage was engulfed in flames.

Due to the pit bull's warning, Bonasera was able to escape to safety from the burning home.

"I ran out of the house and my neighbors came running over, and then I thought about the dog - I'm like, 'He saved my life, I have to save his. So I just put my robe over my face and ran back in and I grabbed the dog and then I stood out here and I watched my house burn," she recalled.

Bonasera thinks that she would've been stuck upstairs if the dog hadn't made her aware of the flames.

The woman's daughter, Alexus Stallworth, stated that Cain is now "the town hero."

"He's a pit bull, too. They have such bad reps, but he's such a good boy," she said.

Over 70 firemen were reportedly needed to put the blaze out. While the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and the arson squad is in the midst of an investigation, the police don't believe that foul play was involved.
