There are rumors circulating that "Outlander" star Sam Heughan will be joining "Sherlock" Season 4. However, creators and producers still have not addressed this news.

According to Parent Herald, the rumors started when series creator Mark Gatiss and the Scottish actor exchanged messages on their Twitter accounts. There are also rumors that claim that the show is currently casting for the role of the third Sherlock brother.

With that, many speculated that Heughan might just be joining the show as Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatch) brother. However, there is still no confirmation of that news as of the moment.

Heughan plays the role of James Fraser in "Outlander." Executive producer Maril Davis shared in an earlier interview that they were impressed with Heughan's audition as they expected that it would be hard to find a suitable actor for the role.

Davis described Heughan as very charming and they immediately associated the character with him. If the rumors are proven to be true, then Heughan will be a great addition to "Sherlock" considering his great portrayal in "Outlander."

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch may have confirmed that "Sherlock" will continue with Season 5. It was earlier reported that the actor denied the speculations that the show will end in Season 4. He expressed his dismay with the irresponsible journalism for taking his earlier statements out of context.

According to Morning Ledger, he explained that fans should first watch "Sherlock" Season 4 for them to understand how different it is from the previous seasons and it will also hint if the show will continue to Season 5. He added that if it is the right thing, and then the fans should expect that they will be doing more seasons for the show. Cumberbatch said that this will be the last time he is talking about the show as he does not want to be misquoted again.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is expected to air on BBC on January 1, 2017.
