Carrie Fisher might be regretting her decision to air out her dirty laundry with Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford.

Last week, Fisher revealed to the world that she had an affair with Ford back in 1976 when they were filming the first Star Wars. Ford was married with two children at the time. While the affair news certain grabbed a lot of headlines, Fisher suggested this week that she might have made a mistake.

Fisher appeared on The Late Show Monday night where host Stephen Colbert asked her about why she decided to reveal the Ford affair. The actress' response was surprisingly candid.

"I found the diaries and decided to publish them, and it was a mistake," Fisher admitted, to which Colbert inquired if she really felt it was a mistake.

"No, but it is too big of a story that I can't handle," Fisher said.

Colbert quickly responded with, "Can you not handle it or can Harrison Ford not handle it?" Colbert said, with Fisher quipping, "I'm sure he can't handle it at all."

Fisher also spoke with The Today Show's Savannah Guthrie about Ford's response to her revelation.

"He's incredibly private. I feel a little bit bad about doing that to him," she said. "But yes, I told him I had found the journals and that I was going to publish them. He sort of went, 'Lawyer.' When you're on location-this is something I discovered- everything is permitted. I didn't know that, I haven't been on location since."

The diaries can be seen in Fisher's new memoir, The Princess Diarist, which is out on bookshelves now. The book comprises of Fisher's thoughts as she was filming the first Star Wars film, the movie that would catapult her to international superstardom.

Fisher and Ford reunited onscreen together in 2015 for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
