The CW's historical fantasy romance series is said to end in Season 4. What might happen when "Reign" returns for a new season next year?

According to GameNGuide, the speculations about the show's final season rose when Adelaide Kane who plays Mary in the show reportedly turned down to renew her contract to reprise her role for "Reign" Season 5. It was said that the actress is planning to work on a different project and this might include a film.

With that, it was said that "Reign" Season 4 might be the end of Mary and Elizabeth's (Rachel Skarsten) rivalry. Many speculations claim that the battle of the queens might end in the death of a major character in the show. Since Kade is said to leave the show, it is most likely that her character will be killed off in the season.

Ecumenical News reported that the show promises to stay true according to the historical events where Queen Elizabeth comes out victorious by the end of their battle. She might order Mary's execution as a result of their long time rivalry.

On the other hand, it was also speculated that Mary's journey to finding a new husband might happen in "Reign" Season 4. It was said that she needs a husband in order to have a stronger claim to the throne. Mary's new husband is said to be played by actor Will Kemp who will play the role of Lord Darnley.

There will also be other romantic love interests for Mary as it was reported that Adam Croasdell's Bothwell may show a romantic connection to the queen. In history, Bothwell was accused of being involved in the murder of a person that is close to Mary. How will Mary process this information?

"Reign" Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on The CW on February 10, 2017.
