News that Donald Trump would still serve as executive producer on The Celebrity Apprentice has become yet another controversy before the president-elect takes office.

Now, new Celebrity Apprentice host Arnold Schwarzenegger is hoping to get Trump as a guest advisor on the show. While the first season of Schwarzenegger's Apprentice is already in the can, it seems that the former governor of California is leaving the option open for Trump to help him in season 2.

"I don't think that he's going to be co-hosting with me [but] maybe we can have him as one of the guest advisors or something like that if he has time," Schwarzenegger explained to reporters at a press conference for The New Celebrity Apprentice Friday.

Schwarzenegger also admitted that he's happy Trump wound up running for public office "so I had the opportunity" to host the new Celebrity Apprentice. As for the controversy over Trump staying on as executive producer, the Terminator star tried to assure reporters that it was more of a formality rather than the president-elect really being involved with the show.

"I knew that from the beginning that he's an executive producer on the show," Schwarzenegger said. "It's no different than when I was running for governor and I became governor. My credit starring in Terminator still said Schwarzenegger and everything stayed the same and I continued getting the royalties and all that stuff. So, I think that this is a contract that he had. I think that it was great that he was part of it."

Trump has since tweeted about being an executive producer on the show, writing that he won't be involved in any way:

The New Celebrity Apprentice premieres Monday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
