George R.R. Martin gives an update about The Winds of Winter. The author reveals that it will not be as happy.

The Winds of Winter is one book that has kept fans waiting for a long time but their patience does not seem to be running out. Readers are looking forward to the sixth installment in the series of A Song of Ice and Fire and now the author has spoken up about the book.

George R.R. Martin teased a good amount about The Winds of Winter, saying that there are a lot of dark chapters in the book he is writing now, reports Entertainment Weekly. Speaking at the Q&A session at the Guadalajara International Book Fair, the author said that he has been telling the readers for 20 years that winter was coming.

Martin said that winter is the time when things die, and cold and ice and darkness fill the world. So, this is not going to be the happy feel-good book that people may be hoping for. He stated that some of the characters are in very dark places.

However, the author had good news too as he said that in any story the classic structure is that things get worse before they get better. So, things are getting worse for a lot of people.

Well, does mean that the seventh and final installment, A Dream of Spring is about happy ending? It might not be. Shedding light on the last part, Martin said that he is not going to tell how he is going to end his book but he suspects that the overall flavor is going to be as much bittersweet as it is happy, claims The Independent.

The writer also took a dig at the delay his last two books have been facing saying that sometimes he looks back and says to himself if it really had to be Seven Kingdoms. Possibly, the Five Kingdoms of Westeros would have been good, too?

It is worth mentioning here that George R.R. Martin has been working on The Winds of Winter for long. The fifth part A Dance of Dragons was released in 2011 and even the HBO series Game of Thrones has overtaken the book series.
